Fremont Peak is our local area’s highest point. It is accessible to hikers from East Ridge Campground in Royal Gorge Park. We can meet at church at 4:00 AM and car-pool and follow one another to the large parking lot at the trailhead. (free trailhead parking) Sunrise will be at 6 AM!
We will begin hiking at 4:30 AM, for a 5:30-6 AM arrival on top. The hike is 2 miles up and 2 miles down. Bring water, a headlamp or flashlight, and trekking poles if you have them. Be sure your gear is in working order before Saturday. Pack a little breakfast to eat on the peak if you like. We will hike up in the dark and twilight to arrive at the peak’s summit in time to view a lovely sunrise in the east over Cañon City, as well as spectacular views of the Royal Gorge and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
